After meeting Nicole “Nicky” Perry at the World Equestrian Games last fall, I was asked to visit and speak to her Piedmont Garden Club in Middleburg, VA on September 13th, 2011. WOW! What hospitality, beautiful scenery and homes, and the most “individual” gardens I’ve ever seen in one place. Everyone had their own style which is what I love to see instead of cookie cutter gardens.

One of the most important things I learned on this trip was how that community watches everything that goes on to make sure it doesn’t get messed up with ugly architecture and compromising businesses.  That is why that area has to be one of the most beautiful places on Earth, and that says a lot coming from a Kentucky native…
