December 6 – 8, 2013 | Charlestown, South Carolina
If you love the south like I do, then Garden & Gun Magazine (www.gardenandgun.com) is for you! They feature the old, the new, the traditional, the high, the low…it’s everything that is cool and really interesting to someone who loves food, culture, fashion, sports…and gardens and guns. Don’t let the name fool you…it was the speakeasy in Charleston, SC that everyone in the “know” went to for good fun.
Just got back from the Garden & Gun Jubilee in Charleston last weekend, held in the mesmerizing Charles Towne Landing Park in the Ashley River section of the city. To get things started, all who attended checked-in at a beautiful log cabin resurrected by our own hometown ‘reclaimed wood’ honey, Longwood Antique Woods of Lexington, KY (www.longwoodantiquewoods.com).
The editors pulled together the Best of Made in the South companies that you wouldn’t be able to find in your local grocery store. My picks were the pickles, chocolates, bloody mary mixes, antique bottle openers, wallets, hats, and, of course, the antique tent. This time, we drove a nice sedan down to Charleston but next year it will be the big pickup truck to carry everything back to Lexington, Kentucky. Got all my Christmas gift shopping done and items that nobody else will have under the tree.
Oh, and the nice extra treat about going to the Jubilee was being able to eat fresh oysters and local beer on Thursday night while listening to an amazing bluegrass band… on Saturday having an incredible dinner and watching JR. Brown perform!!!!…and between, going to museums and fab restaurants in town….Like I always say about the magazine, the Jubilee was like a big bowl of good ice cream…so lovely and you don’t want it to end!
Make plans for next year and you will thank me for it, truly.
