On Saturday, June 9th, I was invited to speak to the Daughters of the American Revolution at their beautifully restored Duncan Tavern in Paris, KY. Not only was this a real treat for me to see, as my whole family are history buffs, but the ladies were so welcoming and interesting to talk to about most every subject, ranging from gardens to antiques to dogs… They were especially surprised when my mother called to tell me the three different ways our family could be traced back to the American Revolution. Don’t let the Carloftis name fool you as it comes from a Greek step-grandfather that my father loved and took his name. My ancestors who fought in the Revolutionary War were John Renta Baker, John McWhorter II, and Jesse Bowling.
