Spring is right around the corner, thankfully, and we are gearing up for the BGT Antiques and Garden Show held at the Alltech Arena on March 7-10th. We are not only creating a lovely garden space for visitors to enjoy but also setting up a Rockcastle River Trading Co. store for customers to pick up antique garden items, garden tools and fertilizers, and all sorts of unique items for your spring garden.
This year is exciting because of the lecture series that cover all of our favorite subjects…gardens, antiques, food and interior design.

First on the list for the Friday, March 8th luncheon are my close friends, Christopher Hirsheimer and Melissa Hamilton of Canal House. Christopher is my next door neighbor in Bucks County, PA and is without a doubt the most intriguing person I’ve ever met. Her approach to cooking AND life is like a breath of fresh air. I could sit and listen to her for hours and hours, and if you are interested in food (she co-founded Saveur Magazine, was Food Editor of Metropolitan Home, Editor in Chief of Organic Style and currently has a monthly article in Bon Appetit and she and Melissa Hamilton are number 33 in the top 50 Women Game Changers in Food) or photography (she won the 2003 James Beard Award for Photography for Frank Stitt’s Southern Table) or publishing books (they come up with the recipes, cook the food, photograph the food then design the book, then publish it!!!) you will LOVE their talk.

That evening, our good friend and neighbor in Bucks County, PA Laura Bohn will be the subject of a most interesting Cocktails and Conversation. Unlike most talks we’ve all been to before, this “talk” will start with a cocktail hour and then have an informal Q and A onstage with Dale Fisher. She is an award winning designer whose work amazes me. I’ve been to her several homes on my street (they’ve all been on the cover of either House Beautiful, etc.) or in the city where she and her husband bought an old Beaux Arts Bank in the West Village and restored it several years ago. Her theories on the use of color is worth the ticket price alone. New, Fresh…Laura Bohn is FANTASTIC!

On Saturday, I will be giving a talk on How to Create “History” in the Modern Garden as well Before and Afters of Historic Botherum. All of these photos are never seen before and, as always, the talk with be full of laughs and information
